What is Minecraft all about?
A bona-fide gaming phenomenon, Minecraft is an indie hit from a lovable swede named Markus Persson. The premise is deceptively simple, and can be summed up in two short sentences:

At its core it's a sandbox survival game. You start with nothing but your fists, and by stripping the world of resources -- made entirely of cubical blocks that represent different materials such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, tree trunks, and more -- you gather these resources and place them elsewhere, creating and recreating whatever you please.
You're able to craft items from the materials you gather to ease building and survival. Facing the world alone, full of animals and monsters, oceans and caverns, and with increasingly useful materials found the deeper you explore, your goal is to conquer a hostile environment and reshape the world as you see fit.
Gameplay aside, it's also one of the best multiplayer volumetric game engines with a thriving modding community. And that's what we're most interested in -- reshaping the game itself as we see fit.
What's different about The Voxel Box?
The ''vanilla'' Minecraft gameplay does have a certain appeal, but we prefer to dispense with the tedious grind that most Minecraft servers force upon players so we can get right to the good stuff -- arranging and rearranging a bunch of voxels until something awesome happens. We've helped evolve what we think is the best creative multiplayer game anywhere, and we're able to redefine what can be done in Minecraft as soon as someone comes up with a neat idea!

Why play on our little Minecraft server?
Aside from being in the company of talented folks that will inspire your own creative genius, The Voxel Box is one of the Minecraft community's longest running servers -- we've been around as long as there's been multiplayer, and that experience has taught us how to ensure your time here is always fun. The administrative staff has become a unique blend of people with ''the right stuff'' -- an international group of server operators, programmers, and artists who are always finding new ways to bring our players' creative expression into the many worlds playable here.
The Voxel Box is primarily a free-build or creative Minecraft server. You've got unlimited resources and a vast world to build anything and everything you want, without having to worry about griefers or hostile mobs. The main thrust of Voxel-Play is toward art, architecture, community critique and storytelling.
We've got one of the largest maps out there: 30 square miles of mountains, plains, rivers, oceans, tundra and desert for you to explore and build upon. With the addition of a huge Deep Space area and more uniquely themed areas in the works, you'll always have new and exciting ways to enjoy the creative side of the game.
What makes or breaks a server is the community -- and you'll find that the players here are a mature, tight-knit group who design, build, and play well together.
